Entertain With Style!
March 16, 2008
I love to entertain especially outside! I like to toss around extra large pillows from Shabby Chic so my guests can sunbathe at the same time. I prefer a late afternoon at home setting with simple decor, fresh food, and a signature dessert. Here I serve up my tips for the perfect spring/summer party!
Hosting: Always seat your guests next to someone familiar on one side and then someone new on the other. No serious conversations ..laughter is key!
Seating: A chic party favor to serve as the dinner place card is a disposable camera with your guests name scribbed on it. I would even ask to see the outtakes once they develop the film
Tapletop: I am a fan of drink umbrellas and fruity drinks during spring/summer and I adore personalized paper napkins and plates with cheeky designs and humor. My favorite ones right now say, Who Invited All These Tacky People? I love it!
Flowers: Hyacinths because they are fragrant as a scented candle
Menu: Steak and fresh veggies
Dessert: Chocolate souffle
As your guests arrive in the late afternoon serve them this delicate lemon grass flavored ice tea. My mom taught me how to make it! Enjoy!
Rinse 1 stalk of fresh lemon grass and cut into 2 inch lengths
Crush with the flat side of a large spoon or knife
Boil 5 cups of water, 1/2 cup sugar, and 7 thin slices of ginger along with the tea
Take off heat and add 5 bags of green tea
Let sit for 5 minutes, then toss the tea bags. Let cool for 30 minutes
Pour into fine strainer into a pitcher. Cover and chill in fridge not freezer for 2 hours
Pour into water glasses filled with crushed ice

Blush Q & A For Dark Luscious Skin!
March 15, 2008
I believe I own more blushes than lip gloss. My all time favorite you simply can’t pry from my manicured grip is Nars Multiple Stick in Malibu. But I am not going to talk about that item as that can take all day! What I can say is that now that spring is here and summer is right around the corner wearing blush is a must! I am relieved winter has passed and my frozen cheeks can come out of hiding. Being a woman of color I adore my skin tone but it can be quite challenging to find a color that will show up! Of course that never stopped moi. After experimenting with every major brand out on the market the tried true classics come from NARS which is a highly pigmented line, and Cover Girls Cheeker blush in Sierra Sands. Sierra Sands is discontinued so I get it off drugstore.com.
Bright blushes may look shocking or too intense in the container but they show up beautifully on us! Rule of thumb is to not go sheer. Your BFF are vivid reds, orange, or pink hues. What is equivalent to NARS Orgasm which looks like the real deal on Caucasian women but on dark skin it fades away quicker than it came is MAC’s blush in Format. Same brownish pink but not with the suggestive name ..boo hoo
If you already own Orgasm in your collection (I do) put NARS Palm Beach on first then add Orgasm on top. Voila! Your glowing! A great version for night is NARS blush in Exhibit A. I know your going to say the color is construction cone orange but on dark skin its delicious and makes a great substitute for when you don’t have bronzer. A little goes a long way!
Ok enough makeup talk ..off to make coffee!

Back to the Desert!
March 14, 2008
Every spring, more than 15,000 lesbians heed some cosmic force and make a mad dash for Palm Springs, Calif, to attend the wild parties otherwise known as Dinah Shore! Billed by the organizers as the largest lesbian event in the world, the event started in the ’70s as a few flyers handed out at gay bars announcing some fun events around the golf tournament. It’s grown into a weekend that now includes celebrities ..even straight ones! {That means you Tila}
I went to Dinah Shore last year as a *newbie*. All of my “lesbian knowledge” of the event up to that point came from stories from my friends. They seemed to have a very good time if you know what I mean. I remember pouting because I tend to be shy and a tad bit reserved if I am around a lot of women. Yes, shocking isn’t it? I was worried that I would not fit in.
It’s Not about the Golf anymore! The crazy thing is, I can’t remember for the life of me how I even knew that Dinah Shore was a huge party for lesbians. A brochure must have come with the Home Office for Lesbians registration packet. The same brochure is not inserted into a man’s pocket because whenever I mention the Dinah Shore being an event that is attended by tens of thousands of lesbians, I get some blank stares from the men. “What? They go for the golf?!” Um, no.
So back I go! Looking forward to stopping once again at the Cabazon outlets for more Gucci and Le Creuset cookware to fill up my SUV, FABULOUS steak with Bass Pinot Noir at The Falls Restaurant and a chance to model my new resort wear at the Wyndam Hotel. Care to join me?

Tuesday Food For Thought
March 11, 2008
I was on the phone last night chatting with my friend who lives in New York who I have known since we were in college together. Even though she lives 3000 miles away we still act as if she lives down the street.
Tues Food for Thoughts are short & sweet! Just remember:
Best friends are like diamonds, *PrEciOuS* and *RaRe*
False friends are like leaves, found everywhere.

Destructive Literature

Who would have thought I would receive soo many emails about how large of a magazine collection I really have. In all, I’ve spent about $150 on magazine subscriptions during the past year. That’s not going to break the bank, but it’s $150 I know I could have spent elsewhere. It’s $150 I could have invested, but I certainly derived $150 worth of pleasure from my magazines!
I know magazines defeat the concept of simple living. They’re extra clutter — both mental and physical which complicates life. They weigh on the mind.
All in all ~ I wouldn’t have it any other way

Everything is Stylish & So Is My Water!
March 4, 2008
I remember back in the late 90’s seeing pics everywhere of Helena Christensen and Naomi Campbell carrying water bottles everywhere with them. Then I thought I now have a reason to drink eight glasses of water a day for my health. Stupid analogy I know but this warped viewpoint was coming from an obsessed mag o holic, {still am} I knew more about the supermodels than themselves!
Great news! If you’re a Billion Dollar Babes subscriber, Fiji Water is offering discounted home delivery service to your home & free shipping. Visit www.figiwater.net . Shoot me an email for the promotional code!
Chug away in good health!

My Makeup Essentials Video
March 4, 2008
I do get asked this a lot especially when you come over to my house and see my entire makeup collection. Do you really use all that war paint? Well I do but not on weekends, pool visits, beach, or trying to relax on the plane. {I don’t care for heights} I did add two important items to the mix. I couldn’t help it and I am sure some of you girls will faint because I didn’t include mascara.
I would love to read what other gals or you guys *if your into that stuff* use for such occasions.. or do you go in full face!
Moi xoxo
P.S. I HATE my voice on film! I sound like an old Palm Beach snob!
